One person lost his life on Saturday night and the other sustained serious injuries after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in an accident along Nairobi - Mombasa highway.
The accident involved a lorry and a pick-up which collided head-on in Lukenya, Athi River sub-county of Machakos county.
Machakos Police commander Abdinassir Harun confirming the incident said the driver of the lorry was overspeeding and tried overtaking other vehicles which led to the accident.
Harun said that the driver of the pickup died on the spot and the lorry's driver is receiving treatment at Shalom community hospital as the body of the man who died is preserved in the same hospital mortuary.
“The driver of the pickup, an Indian lost his life on the spot, the other one is in stable condition at the shalom hospital," said Harun.
He said investigations have been launched concerning the accident which caused a heavy traffic snarl-up as traffic police from Athi River and Machakos stepped in to help control traffic.
The two vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Athi River police station.
