One person has been confirmed dead and eight others sustained injuries after a Nissan matatu hit an oncoming lorry at Nyambunde in Bobasi sub-county along the Nyamache- Igare- Itumbe road on Thursday.
Confirming the accident, Kisii County Police Commandant Abdi Hassan, said the deceased, whose identity has not been revealed, met his death after the matatu driver lost control, crashing into the moving lorry at around 1 pm.
The police boss asked drivers plying the route to avoid over speeding especially when driving passed Nyambunde during this festive season in a bid to regulate the growing number of accidents witnessed in the area
“All drivers should also be careful so as not to cause unnecessary loss of life during this festive season,” said Mr Hassan, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The injured passengers were rushed to Kisii Level Five Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Several persons have died at Nyambunde area, which is considered a blackspot.
In August 2016, four students of St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls High School died after their bus was involved in an accident at the same spot.
