One person lost her life while four others sustained serious injuries on Wednesday, after an accident involving a personal car and a military truck at Karai, along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the military truck lost control and collided with the saloon car, killing the woman instantly and injuring two others.
Two military soldiers who were in the truck also survived with serious injuries and were rushed to Longonot hospital in Naivasha.
“The driver of the truck lost control and swerved off the road before colliding with the car head on even though the woman tried to get off the road to avoid the lorry,” said Moses Matuiya, an eyewitness.
The afternoon accident paralysed transport along the busy highway, before police came to help ease the congestion.
A traffic officer at the scene said investigation has begun to establish the cause of the accident.
He further asked motorists to exercise caution while using the road to avert such accidents, noting that we are heading to the festive season when roads become overly busy.
The body of the deceased was retrieved from the vehicle’s wreckage and taken to Naivasha Sub-county hospital.
