One man died on Tuesday morning in Karure, Gatundu North, when a lorry he and other two were using to transport maize veered off Mang'u-Fly over Road and overturned.
The other two, a man and a woman were seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment at Igegania Sub-county Hospital in Gatundu North.
According to an eye-witness Daniel Kiruka, the lorry was over speeding when the accident occurred.
“The lorry was speeding and emitting smoke from its fore wheels and I could tell that the lorry had traveled a long distance,” said Kiruk.
“It was not long before I heard a loud bang and knew it was the lorry that had just passed me,” he added.
Gatundu North OCPD John Kipiengo confirmed the incident, saying that the Canter lorry was coming from Naivasha and was loaded with sacks of maize.
“There were two men and a woman. One, 50-year-old man died while being rescued from the lorry, while the other two are now in hospital,” said Kipiengo.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary.
