A mother of two died on the spot as scores of passengers sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving a Western-bound bus from Nairobi.
The Sunday evening accident that occurred near Kinale Forest along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway happened after the bus driver lost control, crashing into a vehicle parked by the roadside.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred as a result of the bus driver’s recklessness.
Sam Otieno, one of the passengers, said that they pleaded with their driver to stop communicating over the phone while driving but he could hear none of it. This, he said, led to the bus veering off the road.
Otieno added that the female passenger succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.
According to a police officer handling the matter, the driver is in custody and will be charged with careless driving.
