Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Sunday after a resident reportedly died of malaria when being rushed to the nearby Keroka district hospital, the angry residents accused the county government of delaying to elevate the hospital despite several pledges.

According to them, the deceased, Charles Ochogo, died on his way to hospital with the doctors accusing the residents of delaying to take him for treatment.

“It’s quite unfortunate that our people will continue dying simply because we don’t have health facilities near this place and if we do, the existing ones are not fully equipped and are also under-staffed,” said Mr Pius Ondieki.

“We want to ask the county government to build a modern hospital to save many lives. They have repeatedly pledged but unfortunately, nothing concrete has been done to that effect,” added Mr Charles Basweti.

They threatened to paralyse businesses in the nearby Mosobeti market if the county government failed to respond in a month's time.

“We have powers as residents to demonstrate peacefully but I want to promise it won’t be business as usual. It’s prudent that they act in a month’s time,” added Mr Basweti.

Area MCA Ken Atuti referred the situation as ‘critical’ and promised to push the agenda in the county assembly for an urgent action.
