The recent Kenya Premier League awards continue to attract criticism from all quarters, with Kenyans hitting out at organizers for failing to ‘recognize’ the real winners.
Zoo Kericho’s Michale Madoya won four awards, taking home Most Valuable Player, New Young Player of the Year award, Fair Play Player of the Year award as well as the Best Midfielder of the Year award.
However, many continue to ask how the organizers decided on the winners, even though the panel says the awarding process was free and fair.
Some feel Gor Mahia, having won the league with a 19-point difference should have scooped some awards, with other league players as well.
Here is a list of some players who should have won at least an award;
Meddie Kagere:
Kagere has been consistent and outstanding in the last couple of season in the league, and should have at least carried home an award.
Kagere was once again instrumental for K’ogalo, and helped them win their 16th title with five matches to spare.
He bagged 13 goals in the process, and was many times involved in match-deciding goals that saw Gor over the line.
This is not the first time that league winners miss out on such awards, with Tusker FC going home empty handed after a title-winning campaign in 2016, where they also won the Gotv Shield.
