Tension was high on Tuesday afternoon in Kericho town, when angry residents blockaded Kericho- Kisumu highway in retaliation to what they term as attack on public service vehicles in Muhoroni.
Speaking to the media, one driver plying the route noted that he had been hit by stones from angry youth who were protesting the arrest of lawyer Miguna Miguna.
"They threw stones at our vehicle breaking the window panes and windshield. One stone got me in the head, as you can see that I am bleeding. I survived by driving very fast behind a G4S car. Another PSV that was following me was not lucky and its whereabouts as I speak, we are yet to know," the driver stated.
Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony arrived at the scene and tried to calm the protestors but his efforts went futile as demonstrators demanded to be addressed by Kapsoit MCA, Paul Chirchir Tarimbo.
The MCA pleaded with the protestors to clear the barricades and maintain calm. He assured them that the police have been deployed adding that peace shall prevail in the border.
"Let's not fall into the traps of NASA leaders. They want to provoke us into retaliation. Don't harm your fellow brother, please. We are all Kenyans," he said.
Earlier on, one person was reportedly shot dead following confrontations between the police and residents in Ahero, Kisumu.
The residents were protesting against the 'illegal detention' of politician Miguna Miguna.
