Area Chief Charles Odondo who confirmed the incident said the area was flooded following a heavy downpour.

Mr Odondo noted that the body of the deceased was retrieved at the banks of a stream in Manyatta Estate, adding that the matter had already been reported to the police.

According to the chief,  the deceased who is yet to be identified may have been drunk before he was swept away by the flash floods.

“We still do not know the exact cause of the death but we suspect that he drowned following heavy rains that flooded part of this area,” Mr Odondo said as quoted by Daily Nation.

The body was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as police launch investigation into the incident.

The weatherman has, however,  said that the long rains are yet to start even as different areas have been experiencing light showers.

Kenya Meteorological Department director Peter Ambenje had warned of the heavy downpour in various parts of the country starting this month.
