A man has been beaten to death after he was caught stealing in a night incident on Tuesday in Kateki village, Yatta Sub-County.
The culprit was in a company of five others armed with pangas who broke into a house and stole the owner Sh10,000.
Confirming the incident Yatta police OCPD, Edward Chagat, said that residents beat the thief to death.
Chagat said that the victim had succumbed to injuries while being rushed to Matuu level4 Hospital.
“One of the night attackers was cornered by the furious residents who beat him up severely before officers arrived. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Matuu level 4 Hospital,” said Chagat.
However, Chagat warned members of public from taking laws on their hand.
Chagat has further urged the residents to give reports of any information that may lead to arrest of the remaining five who escaped.
He also said that the police officers from Matuu police station have launched a manhunt for the rest.
The body of the victim was transferred to Matuu nursing home mortuary.
