One person died and hundreds of residents left homeless on Monday night when fire broke out in Kismayo slum in Lang’ata constituency.
Police said other structures were destroyed in the incident, Capitalfm.co.ke reports.
The cause of the midnight fire is yet to be ascertained even though investigators suspect it could have been as a result of illegal electricity connections.
Fire fighters and police who were quick in their response had a difficult time accessing the fire scene due to narrow routes.
“The place is too congested for the fire engines,” a senior officer told Capitalfm.
