Police in Elburgon shot dead a suspected gangster after a foiled robbery at a local Supermarket.
Police also recovered crude weapons and tools used to break into business premises.The suspect was among a gang that was breaking into West End supermarket before police received a tip off from a neighbour.
A police source said the incident happened Thursday around 1.40am when they received information and swung into action.
The suspects had tried to gain entry into the supermarket store through the roof after managing to cut off the iron sheets.
Traders in Elburgon town have decried increased cases of theft. They said organized gangs are taking advantage of the ongoing rainy season to terrorize them.
Lead by John Gichau and Monica Muthoni, the traders said they are spending sleepless nights despite some of them having installed CCTV.
"Elburgon turns to a no-go zone as darkness sets in, traders are worried of their security and that of their business," Muthoni said.
The traders urged Molo sub-county security committee to beef up security and enhance police patrol.
Residents identified the killed suspect as a jailbird who was released last month after being in prison for two years.
He had been convicted of robbery charges.
