Clashes over a piece of land in Naivasha on Friday led to the death of one person and injuries to several others.
During the fight, in which a number of people sustained arrow and machete wounds, at least 10 houses were set on fire. The incident involved members of the Kalenjin and Maasai communities.
Members of the Maasai community in the conflict blocked policemen from collecting the body of the herder, saying that they first wanted the return of their more than 500 goats and sheep.
According to witnesses, the conflict was partly caused by the unresolved murder of another herder, which was reported last month. No one has been arrested over the death more than two weeks later.
Naivasha police boss Isaac Masinde, while confirming the death, said officers were immediately dispatched to the scene of chaos.
