Hannie Kiprono, one of the three wive’s of the late former powerful cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott, has described his husband as a nice person, committed, and a man of high principles.

Speaking on Wednesday in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet county, where hundreds of mourners had gone to view Biwott’s body, Hannie disclosed that despite his late husband being wealthy, he still interacted with the common mwananchi.

“Biwott never criticised his enemies. Despite his massive wealth he still mingled with the common man. He was committed to improving the economic livelihood of the Keiyo people,” Hannie said.

The widow further noted when Biwott was accused of corruption and faulted in the murder of Robert Ouko, a highly regarded and respected Kenyan politician in the 1990’s, she advised him to clear his name but Biwott refused to fight back.

“I told him to buy space in a newspaper to defend himself but he declined, saying that it was above his dignity to fight back,” the widow said.

She further revealed that Biwott was a close ally of the former president Daniel Arap Moi and even stayed by his side when people were abandoning Kanu.

“Moi was my love rival because my husband loved him more and was always close to Moi,” she noted amid laughter from hundreds of mourners who had turned up.

Biwott will be buried in Elgeyo Marakwet county, Thursday July 20.
