Kisii County senator, Prof. Sam Ongeri has challenged leaders across the political divide to stop strategising for the next general elections and address socio-economic woes in the country.
The Senator observed that the problems facing the country required an urgent fix which was devoid of politics.
Speaking on Sunday, during a church function at Gesero Catholic Church Ongeri asked his fellow leaders to fulfill the promises they made ahead of the August 8, 2017 polls.
The Senator said that it was irresponsible for politicians to embark on planning for the 2022 elections while Kenya’s economic burden heightened.
"Instead of politicians thinking on how we can deliver to Kenyans, I am sad that some have started to campaign for the next general elections," said Ongeri.
He opposed the floating of the sh.200 billion, Euro Bond by the government, noting that the money was wrongly being spent on recurrent instead of development expenditure.
Ongeri said this was not economical as it increased the debt of the current Sh.90, 000 each Kenyan is expected to pay out of foreign debts.
