Former Cabinet Minister Professor Sam Ongeri has come into a strong support of Jubilee government terming it 'best' since independence.

Speaking on Saturday at his Nyaribari Masaba home, Ongeri urged the Gusii community to support the re-election of Jubilee government citing its commitment to improving infrastructure and electricity supply as major achievements.

“I am convinced that Jubilee government is the best since independence and it’s my humble request that we support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Ongeri said.

“When you go around Gusii region, it’s evident that serious infrastructural work is going one. Our roads have been improved and virtually every region is benefiting from subsidised electricity charges," said Ongeri.

"Those are among many projects going on despite the government scoring poorly in 2013 from our region,” he said.

Ongeri said the community was likely to be neglected in subsequent governments if it failed to speak as one voice in next general elections.

“You all know that in politics, the government gives priority to the regions where it got support and that's a fact," added the professor.

"However, Jubilee has been fair to us by always being ready to work with us. Let’s now unite behind it and steer development among our people,” he added.

On recent appointments to the government by President Kenyatta which saw former key figures in previous government given the opportunity, Ongeri urged the opposition to appreciate the credentials of the beneficiaries rather than the tribe they come from.

“We must admit that no tribe has been shortchanged in government as Cord says," said Ongeri.

"We have seen people from many regions being appointed to senior government positions. However, it’s important to evaluate the ability of someone rather than the region he or she comes from,” he said.
