Ongeri has called upon the chairperson of the Ombudsman, Otiende Amollo, to do away with the report linking him to illegal land acquisition in Kisii.

He said his appointment as an ambassador to UN Habitat is likely to be jeopardised and subject to revocation on the basis of the findings of the Ombudsman’s report released in October.

“I call upon those politicising the report to shun it. The findings in the report are unreasonable because I served as minister 16 years later, in 1998,” said Ongeri.

The Ombudsman’s report accused Ongeri of abusing his powers when he was the minister for Local Government to acquire disputed Kisii land in 1982.

“The office of the Ombudsman should have moved a step ahead and involved the National Land Commission (NLC) to carry out further investigations on the issue before coming out with the report,” said Ongeri.

He added that he will be heading to court to sue the office of Ombudsman if they will not do way with the malicious report.
