Kisii Governor James Ongwae and former Cabinet minister and Nyaribari Masaba MP Sam Ongeri are headed for an alliance ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The former minister of education who is also Kenya's envoy to the UN Habitat and member of the Kenya African National Union met Ongwae in Nairobi on Monday where they are said to have discussed a myriad of issues, including the 2017 elections.
It is said, the duo are planning to counter the recently formed Gusii Unity Talks group spearheaded by Deputy governor Joash Maangi and Senator Chris Obure.
People Democratic Party chairman Omingo Magara and Senator Janet Ongera attended the meeting at a Nairobi hotel. However, they watered down the Obure-Maangi outfit.
Several political hopefuls and professionals from Kisii county were also present in the meeting.
Ongeri was chosen as the chairman of the group while Lukas Mogoa will be the secretary.
Magara will take the responsibility of co-ordinating the group.
Mogoa said they did not meet to endorse anyone for any political office.
"We have met as Kisii leaders irrespective of our political party affiliations to discuss issues affecting us," said Mogoa.
"Those leaders talking about Gusii Unity are misleading us and they should apologise to the community," said Mogoa.
He added that they will invite more leaders to their future meetings.
