Former Education Minister Sam Ongeri was the darling of NASA supporters when the opposition team visited Nyamira County on Sunday with few days to elections.
The former UH Habitat ambassador ditched Jubilee party for ODM few months ago and will be running for Kisii senatorial seat.
And upon his arrival, Ongeri, who was touring Nyamira County for the first time, was met with a rousing reception with enthusiast ODM supporters demanding that he addresses them.
Overwhelmed by the supporters, Master of Ceremony Musalia Mudavadi accepted the request from the supporters and allowed Ongeri to address them.
His move to ODM party has rejuvenated Odinga’s camp and further weakened Uhuru Kenyatta’s support which was on an upward trajectory.
In 2013, the veteran politician was the chief coordinator of TNA campaigns and managed to deliver at least 33 percent of votes for Uhuru.
Recently, he has been traversing vote rich Kisii County with Governor James Ongwae and has been pivotal in Odinga’s campaigns.
His reception particularly sent a strong message that his influence despite switching camps is still intact within Gusii region.
