Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has hailed the defection of Prof Sam Ongeri to ODM from Jubilee is a boost ahead of the August general election.
On Monday, Nyagarama said Ongeri is a long time successful individual who brings with him wisdom and experience to the Raila Odinga-led Orange party.
Ongeri, the UN-Habitat ambassador, was officially received to ODM by party leader Raila during a rally in Kisii County.
He has been endorsed to run for the Kisii senatorial seat on an ODM ticket after the incumbent Senator Chris Obure defected to Jubilee. Others in the race include former CIC chair Charles Nyachae.
Nominated Senator Janet Ong’era hailed Ongeri's decision to join ODM adding that she will now run for the woman representative post in the forthcoming elections.
Ongeri’s defection to ODM has been seen as a boost for Raila’s presidential bid as Kisii region has been seen as a battleground for both Jubilee and NASA.
