The assembly members drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party elected Marlin Akinyi Olero unopposed to replace her predecessor Samuel Ong’ou who had been suspended by the party for gross misconduct.

Olero, who represents Kobura Ward and was elected on Friday, is in an acting capacity until the case against Ong’ou is determined by the ODM disciplinary committee.

Her counterpart from West Nyakach Ward, James Omollo, was elected the acting deputy majority leader to replace Kolwa East’s John Osumba Olum who is also facing disciplinary action by the ODM party.

Chief Whip in the assembly Isaiah Onyango confirmed that 33 members elected on ODM party were present during the election.

Onyango who represents Railways Ward said the position of the deputy majority leader was however hotly contested between Omollo and Calvin Oraro of Kolwa Central and the latter stood down for Omollo.

“I will forward the names of the two to the speaker’s office and they will be sworn in on Tuesday when the assembly resumes,” said Onyango, who was speaking after the elections.

Some of the names that had been touted for the majority leader’s position were Koko and Elijah Omondi, both from Nyakach Sub County and Aggrey Ogosi (East Seme).

Another name that was mooted for the same position is nominated member Aslam Khan, who is an ODM party stalwart and has been involved in all the by-elections campaigns including Homa Bay, Kajiado and the just recently concluded Kabete.

MCAs Benta Ndeda (West Seme) and Paul Achayo (Migosi) had their names being floated for the deputy majority leader's position to replace Olum.
