Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has called on the national government to devolve education functions in both primary and secondary schools.
This will enable them effectively deal with common challenges such as dilapidated infrastructure and disasters in schools.
Speaking at Mochengo PAG secondary school in Nyacheki Ward, Bobasi Sub County, where a dormitory was burnt down by fire, Governor Ongwae promised that his government will help reconstruct the building.
“The County Government has already donated bedding to the affected students and when education will be devolved the counties will be able to solve and develop education matters easily and enable better performance,” said Ongwae.
The Governor was accompanied by area Member of County Assembly Nyaega Ongeri, Chief Officers David Ogega (Education) and Samwel Ongoncho (Roads), Chief of Staff Joel Momanyi among other government officers.
Earlier, Governor Ongwae made a stop-over at Matierio, Borangi and Ebiosi markets where he took time to listen to the needs of the people and earmarked various projects among them expansion of health facilities, construction of roads and bridges, water reticulation, construction of market shades among others.
The Governor later visited Keera- Mogonga road where a bridge will be constructed.
