Kisii county governor James Ongwae has called upon all authorities from both the county and national government to inspect all buildings that are under construction to ensure that they attain the required safety standards.
According to the governor currently there are many construction projects ongoing and more so in the upcoming estates such as Mwembe and Nyanchwa and there was a need to ensure they are all safe before a disaster knocks the door.
The county boss reinstated that following the Huruma tragedy where more than 45 people perished when a storey building collapsed, it was important to take action to avert calamity in the county.
The governor was addressing journalist in his office on Monday after meeting with all the county executives.
“I want to call upon all the authorities to ensure that all building that people have already occupied to be inspected and ensure the upcoming ones get the proper approval by the National Construction Authority (NCA),” he added.
He also called upon all the resident to take caution before getting into the new building before they are inspected by the respective authorities.
