Kisii Governor James Ongwae has castigated hooligans who took advantage of the recent road accident involving students and employees of the Gusii institute of technology to vandalize and steal property.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Kisi county government official Paul Ochola during the burial of Mercy Barongo Asiago in Botori village, Kisii township location yesterday, Ongwae extended his condolences to the parents, families and the Institute staff during this moment of sorrow.
The governor accused hooligans most of whom are idlers of causing unnecessary havoc which could scare investors and told those who might have sponsored the fracas that they were out of focus because this was not the way to address the problem which involved a traffic police officer.
He therefore extended his hearth to hold discussions with the students through their student’s welfare association so that they can be able to share any problem facing the institution.
The late Mercy who was working as a support staff at the institute and was pursuing her diploma in food and beverage a waiting graduation in August this year, was knocked down together with other colleagues at the main gate by an impounded vehicle carrying electricity poles.
Politicians failed to attend the burial which was presided over by the area Chief Richard Magaki.
The ceremony was also attended by officers from the Kisii county government Obino Nyambane and Evans Mageka.
