Nine people have been confirmed dead while forty four (44) others were rescued from rabbles of the Kisii building that collapsed early last week, Governor James Ongwae has confirmed.
Ongwae also officially closed search and rescue mission that was under Kenya Defense Forces, police and Kenya Red Cross in the last one week.
“So far nine people have been confirmed dead and forty four others are in a stable condition at the Kisii Referral Hospital. I have officially closed down the search and rescue mission,” read a Facebook post in his account.
He said the Kisii County government will foot transport and mortuary fees for the deceased and also waive fee for those still receiving treatment.
“My government foot transport and mortuary fee for the dead and also waiver fee for those still admitted in the county hospital,” he added.
He hailed Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Defense Forces and the Police Force for the successful operation in the search and recovery mission.
