Kisii Governor James Ongwae has declared war on bar owners in the county.
The governor said he was planning to reduce the number of bars in Kisii saying they largely contributed to alcoholism and immorality.
He noted that since most of the existing bar licenses will expire by end of March owners should ensure they meet all the qualifications before seeking to renew their licenses.
“The exercise of issuing licenses will not be left to the County liquor control committee alone, this time, all local leaders will be involved,” said Ongwae.
He asked chiefs to be in the frontline in ensuring that only quality bars are legalised to operate.
The Governor equally said that the licenses his Government will be issuing are going to be tamper proof inorder to avoid situations where people issue fake licenses.
Kisii county liquor licensing department is facing a case in court where it's staff are suspected of issuing fake certificates.
