Mr Ongwae is expected to face a strong challenge from the veteran politician and area Senator Chris Obure, South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya and Former CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae.

But Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko maintains that the County Governor deserves a second chance to complete a number of projects he had launched in the past four years.

“Devolution was a new concept and being the first time, challenges are synonymous in all counties. I think Kisii County isn’t an exception but I think the Governor has done remarkably well in terms of setting infrastructure, water, roads and supporting agriculture,” he said.

“He has also been in the front line ensuring that industries such as sugar, avocado, and even banana have been established to uplift the livelihoods of our people. We must accept that not all things can be done in such a short duration that is why I support his reelection,” he said on Friday.

Apoko also lauded the Governor’s efforts of uplifting businesses by erecting modern markets and providing streetlights in various market centers to improve security.

“We have all seen how modern markets have been built in many wards and more progress in ongoing. He deserves the second term and those criticising him should instead join forces to better Kisii County,” he said.
