The County chief on Friday said Nyangweta forest will be cleared to pave way for the construction of the factory.

“Kisii County we deserve a sugar factory. Tobiko’s plans to oppose the clearing of Nyangweta forest so that the factory can be set up are unacceptable. Let the Cs accept because at the end of it what we need is development, jobs to be created for our local youth to boost lifestyles,” he said.

Ongwae urged Kisii County elected leaders to team up and push for the construction of the factory.

He noted that people will not be left to struggle in poverty just because of protecting Nyangweta forest.

“Our people will not be poor just because of protecting the forest. Clearing of 120 acres of the forest for the construction of the sugar factory will not affect the forest cover negatively as claimed by Tobiko,” added Ongwae.

He reiterated that his administration is committed to ending poverty among the people of Kisii County.
