Speaking on Friday in Marani Ward, Kitutu Chache North Sub County at a funeral, Ongwae noted he had met with business stakeholders on the matter of levy increment in the Finance Act, to deliberate in the matter before the changes are implemented.

He said those who protested to his office on Thursday this week petitioning him to reduce the charges, were stage-managed by his detractors who are 'lusting' after the gubernatorial seat.

"Some people are misleading traders on the issue of changes in levy charges. Those people who were protesting were not the genuine traders because we had met stakeholders to deliberate on the changes in the tax changes, he said.

He added, “Some people have realised the governor's seat is sweet and they want to use all means to stain my government for their selfish interests. They want to get power through the backdoor," the governor noted.

He asked the business community to be patient as they are looking into the matter and promised to give a report in the same.

Former Kisii Town mayor Samuel Omwando led the protests to the governor's office and has threatened to go to court if the charges will not be reviewed.
