The flagship comes amidst a shortage of drugs in a number of hospitals across the county leading to congestion in the county’s referral hospital.

Speaking during the flagship on Tuesday, Ongwae said his government was committed to equipping the medical facilities with enough drugs to curb drug shortages.

“My government is always committed to ensuring the shortage of drugs in our hospitals is controlled," said Ongwae.

"We want people to receive medication at the lowest level before being referred to the county hospital,” Ongwae said.

Ongwae warned health officials against drug smuggling sand challenged chief health officers to put mechanisms of curbing the vice.

“I am aware of health officials who are out to make money out of drugs purchased by the county government," said Ongwae.

"We will not allow such uncouth behaviors and I have already instructed Chief Health Officer and his team to come up with a strategy that can combat such vices,” he added.

He said his government was committed to improving health delivery in the region by solving challenges facing the health sector.

“We may not be perfect but my administration is committed to improving health services delivery to our people,” added Ongwae.

Among the drugs purchased from Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) includes anti-malaria drugs, HIV test kits, family planning commodities and general essential drugs.
