Kisii Governor James Ongwae’s decision to stand firm in support of his political party Orange Democratic Movement in a rally attended by a host of Jubilee leaders has been hailed by a section of senior ODM officials.

Ongwae on Sunday insisted that he was steady in ODM party, dismissing a host of leaders led by Kitutu Chache North Jimmy Angwenyi who demanded that he decamps to Jubilee to revive his reelection dreams.

Speaking to the reporter on Monday, Nyamira ODM Vice Chairperson Julius Kaka termed Ongwae's stand as ‘bold’, and urged other party members to emulate him.

“I want to thank Governor Ongwae for letting people know that one’s political rights cannot be sabotaged by few individuals. His boldness in a lesson for many party supporters who do not have a political stand when it comes to politics,” he said.

“His message was simple and clear and I hope Jubilee learnt a lesson that you cannot coerce people to join your camp,” he added.

Kisii County ODM Youth League leader Erick Janganya backed Ongwae and challenged him to plan to run as president in 2022.

“Our Governor is smart and has shown over time that he is always loyal to people who elected him. He is worth to stand for presidency in 2022 because he has shown to the world his consistent political stands. As youth leaders, we are ready to emulate him by remaining intact in our ODM party,” he said.

The event was grazed by Deputy President William Ruto who challenged political elites from Gusii community to support Jubilee government in 2017 elections. 

Ongwae was elected on an ODM ticket and is expected to go for reelection on the same party.
