The traders said they are regretting electing Ongwae in 2013 and 2017 because since he was sworn into office for the second term, he has not even visited the market.

“There is poor drainage in the market, no stall constructed so far yet the governor promised to help us construct permanent stalls with sheds to prevent us from the scorching sun,” said Zipporah Kemunto, a trader.

She noted that traders will in January hold demonstrations to push the county government to upgrade the market.

John Makori, who hawks utensils, said the county government is only interested in collecting revenue from traders.

“The county is only interested in harassing traders to collect revenue but it has become too difficult for them to upgrade the market. Traders should look for a way to pressure governor Ongwae to allocate funds for the construction of stalls with sheds,” said Makori.
