Kisii Governor James Ongwae has urged all MPs in the county to help in identifying poor families to benefit from the free National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover the county government plans to buy soon.

Ongwae said he has to include all Kisii county MPs in the exercise rather than conducting it independently through MCAs for inclusivity purposes.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kisii town Ongwae said the Kisii county government has put everything in place to secure NHIF worth Sh50 million as set aside in the budget.

“We have 45 wards and we have put everything in place in order to buy NHIF cards for those people who cannot afford it,” said governor Ongwae.

“In Kisii County, there is a habit of politicking upcoming projects. Am asking all nine MPs in Kisii county to help me in identifying poor people who should benefit from these free NHIf cards,” he added

Ongwae also challenged those  able to purchase NHIF cover for themselves not to include themselves in the project so that only those who cannot afford benefit.
