Last week Kisii county governor James Ongwae appointed 14 new chief officers to steer several departments in the county.
On Tuesday, the 14 newly appointed Chief Officers signed a code of conduct with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in a ceremony graced by Governor James Ongwae and his Deputy Joash Maangi.
In their congratulatory speeches to the appointees, Ongwae, and his deputy Joash Maangi challenged the officers to begin work immediately and build the county.
“You have been given an onerous responsibility as authorized officers and accounting officers for your respective departments. All I need from you is effective service delivery so you must deliver on our development priorities. I will not entertain excuses,” Governor Ongwae said.
“Even if you’re not loyal to me as Govern, at least be loyal to the County Government and the people of Kisii who have given you a job. As you come, I expect you to take care of government resources and your first task will be to scrutinize pending payments to ensure we don’t pay for ghost projects,” he added.
On his part, Maangi urged the appointees to embrace virtues of competence, loyalty, and hard work.
“Some of your predecessors were not loyal to the cause and you pay for it,” he said.
