A section of Kisii residents demanded Governor James Ongwae to be given time to address a gathering on Monday during the funeral of Mrs Esther Nyachae, wife to former powerful Minister Simon Nyachae.
Several politicians from across the country and around the world had flocked to Nyachae’s compound to mourn with the veteran politician.
Trouble started when Former CIC Chair and son to the deceased Mr Charles Nyachae denied Ongwae opportunity to speak, ordering him to salute to the crowd despite being the senior most politicians and the County Chief.
It’s after which angry residents started chanting pro-Ongwae slogans compelling Mr Nyachae to change the tune and invite the Governor who otherwise avoided speaking politics.
“My reason for being here is not too politic but to condole with the family of the deceased. I normally play politics out there and not in funerals where we are supposed to grief with deceased families,” he said.
However, Nyachae denied embarrassing Governor insisting that the program was tied and only a few people were to speak.
“I have no reason to deny my good friend and Governor Time to console my family. It’s only that we had limited time and that is why a number of politicians only waved to mourners,” he said.
Mr Nyachae has made his intentions of contesting for gubernatorial seat public and is viewed to be among the top contestants.
