Kisii Governor James Ongwae has challenged Orange Democratic Movement Party rebels to quit their seats as the best way of making their ‘threats’ real.
Ongwae’s remarks come at the time when the Orange party has reportedly written to over ten elected leaders alerting them an intent of expunging their names from the party’s register, a move that could result in a sequence of by-elections.
And on Saturday at his official residence, Ongwae hit on the rebels without making specific reference accusing them of impeding the party activities.
“Kenya is a democratic country where we respect people’s political freedoms. However, the freedom makes sense when for since you quit a party completely and not just making empty threats. You will be a coward when you make threats,” he said.
“There is no substantive reason for one to continue staying in the party where in real since you’ve jumped to another party. That is killing the democracy we enjoy. You should resign and face electorates to seek a fresh mandate if you are courageous,” he added in the remarks that could be directed to a host of ODM rebels from Kisii.
Ongwae has been fighting a team of ODM rebels led by Senator Chris Obure, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka together with a host of Jubilee friendly leaders who are critical of his regime.
Though Obure and Onyonka have indicated of decamping ODM, they skipped the mega launched of Jubilee party which was attended by their political friends among them Charles Nyachae and Joash Maangi.
