Chitago Borabu MCA believes Kisii Governor James Ongwae will easily beat a candidate fielded by Obomo bwomogusii pioneers given his popularity at the grass root levels.
Mr Ongwae is facing a fierce competition from a faction led by Senator Chris Obure and Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who accuses Ongwae of underdevelopment of the region.
But Mr Albert Oino on Tuesday backed the embattled Governor saying he had support from the grassroots due to his remarkable development record.
“I have been following the Kisii County politics and I still believe Ongwae will easily win the 2017 polls in case he faces opponents from Obomo Bwomogusii group. He has been pushing for infrastructural development, health, and even agriculture which transform lives of people,” he said.
“Those opposing him have nothing substantial to question him. He enjoys grass root support and that is a reality. He has been working tirelessly but his detractors never appreciate. They only want to take power from him because he is viewed as an outsider,” he added.
Oino hailed Ongwae’s ‘superb’ relationship with MCAs and said his closeness with grass root leaders gave him an upper hand of getting reelected.
“His relationship with the MCAs is superb. We are on the ground and I don’t see if his opponents will beat him. He is strong than those propagating lies about him. I have assessed and I can bet that he is very popular regardless of the opposition he is facing,” he said.
