Kisii Governor James Ongwae has hit on the pioneers of Otamba declaration that seeks to unite Abagusii community calling them ‘visionless and myopic’ days after the leaders called for the unity.
A faction led by Senator Chris Obure convened a meeting at Otamba and insisted that the region needed a strong political party to unite area residents, a move which has been viewed as a scheme to oust Mr Ongwae from leadership.
In his address at Kisii Social Hall during a talent search show on Saturday night, Ongwae insisted that the leaders were after advancement of their personal interest and questioned their track record.
“I have been hearing people talking about Omogusii unity yet they are not open to tell us exactly what they want to do. These are theatrics that are visionless and myopic which we cannot allow at all to impede development,” he said.
“The community has been united before and nobody can claim that there is disunity among us. We do not have conflicts at all so the perceived disunity is basically apolitical schemes ahead of 2017. Some of these people challenging me have questionable records throughout their tenure as leaders,” he said.
He said should the unity stand all leaders across Nyamira and Kisii Counties should be fully involved without discrimination.
“In case these are not mere politics, I expect all leaders from our two counties to be fully involved in talks. Otherwise, we cannot allow people with selfish interests to hide in the name of unity,” he said.
