Kisii governor James Ongwae has urged leaders in the county to bury their political differences and engage in constant talk with the county government for economic prosperity.

Speaking at Kenyenya in Bomanchoge-Borabu constituency on Tuesday, Ongwae urged Members of Parliament from the county to work closely with the county government to solve pressing needs for area residents.

Ongwae said a number of MPs were still unwilling to work with the county leadership despite persistent invitations.

“We cannot move forward as a county if some leaders held their views without sharing with us. Time for political competitions was over long ago and it’s time to work for our people. They (MPs) are representatives of the people but some are still unwilling to work with devolved governments,” Ongwae said.

He said the region was witnessing high rate of duplication of projects with the CDF committee and the county governments launching similar projects leading to waste of resources.

“For instance, it’s difficult to know what roads the MPs want to do and the roads the county is willing to repair. This makes it easy for us to duplicate projects leading to wastage of resources. We should speak as leaders and come up with a road map for our people,” he said.

Ongwae said his government had prioritised feeder roads in the region to make it easy for farmers to transport their farm produce to markets.

“The county is emphasising on roads and it’s important for us to work with MPs and MCAs to help our farmers. But it’s unfortunate that some leaders are yet to come out of 2013 polls,” he said.
