Revelations that machines that cost huge amounts of taxpayers' money are lying idle in health facilities across the country have troubled many.
The governor of Kisii County James Ongwae has noted these concerns and said that the county intends to re-train doctors in the county to ensure that they are equipped with the skills to operate the machines.
According to him, around 45 doctors have been sent to a number of universities to update their skills.
''We have sent 45 doctors to various universities to help them acquire skills. The target is to reduce the high cost of specialised treatment and bring down referral cases,'' the governor said.
The fear of scores of residents is that the time to acquire the said skills might take too long.
Governor Ongwae's words come in the wake of revelations that the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital suffers a shortage of staff to operate specialised equipment by the facility's CEO Dr. Enock Ondari.
