The county government of Kisii under the leadership of Governor James Ongwae now Partners with National Transport and Safety Authority to control Transport and safety on Kisii roads.
In a ceremony that was graced by NTSA manager, strategies and county coordinations Daniel Musumba, Ongwae inaugurated a committee of 9 members whose aim is to control the transport and oversee adherence to safety measures.
The chairman of the committee set up was CEC for Transport Vincent Sagwe and members include the County Commissioner, Persons with Disability, County Director of Health, County Police Commander and Public Transport Operators.
“Road safety is important for the socio-economic development of this County. We must progress to the level in other countries where accidents are frowned upon and limited as much as possible,” said Governor Ongwae.
“We must heighten public awareness on road safety. As a County Government, we shall train traffic marshals to supplement efforts by traffic police to manage road transport in Kisii,” he added.
Ongwae asked the committee to craft mitigation that will oversee the safety of roads across the county. He cited the Keumbu Daraja road to be a menace and needed urgent attention.
