Kisii Governor James Ongwae is set to unveil a new lineup ahead of 2017 polls in what is believed to be a response to Otamba Declaration that was spearheaded by area Senator Chris Obure.
Mr Obure, who is set to challenge Ongwae, is believed to be fronting Charles Nyachae for Senatorial seat, Mary Otara for Women Rep and Joash Maangi for Deputy governor slot.
An insider who spoke on condition of anonymity hinted that Mr Ongwae has finalised a lineup that will go to polls regardless of their political affiliation.
“The Governor is not asleep and he had to go to the drawing board. He has been having intensive negotiations with his political allies and his lineup will be unveiled soonest to counter his challengers,” said the source.
"Under his new team, Omingo Magara will be his Deputy, Janet Ong’era Women Representative, Sam Ongeri will carry the senatorial mantle while Ongwae will defend his gubernatorial seat,” said the source.
However, according to the source, only Ong’era and Magara have agreed with the new proposal and negotiations with Prof Ongeri are said to be in the closing stages.
Mr Ongwae is the Orange Democratic Movement Kisii County Secretary while Obure is the chairman though he has previously hinted of decamping to KANU.
Efforts to reach Ongwae for comment were futile since he could neither pick calls nor respond to text messages.
