Speaking on Thursday in Kisii town, Governor Ongwae revealed that the county loses more than Sh700 million that he said has compromised development in the county.

"The allocation from national government depends on the amount of money we collect in our county. We have been receiving low because our traders are not complying on payment of taxes. They are being incited not to pay taxes," said Ongwae.

He added: "You might do that thinking you will affect Ongwae but know that Kisii County is bigger than any one of us. Therefore, we need to join hands so that we can ensure development in our county."

He ordered tax collectors to avoid using excessive force against repellant traders. Instead, Mr Ongwae said they will engage the business community on the importance of paying levies.
