Kisii Governor James Ongwae has warned politicians against politicising tragedies and calamities reported in the area to enhance their political interests.
Ongwae expressed concern over a worrying trend where some politicians capitalized on the tragedies, especially road and fire accidents to attack the county government and advance their sinister political motives.
Speaking at Gusii Stadium during the marking of this year's Madaraka Day celebrations, Ongwae warned politicians eyeing various elective positions in the county to stop fanning violence and chaos whenever there was a tragedy.
“I am warning politicians eyeing various elective positions in this county against using tragedies to further their political interests to the disadvantage of the residents who lose property and lives when politicians incite members of the public to cause chaos in the name of protesting against tragedies in the area,” stated Ongwae.
He asked Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi and his security team to take action against any politician found fanning chaos and inciting members of the public to loot and destroy property under the guise of protesting against tragedies, especially road accidents in the area.
Ongwae warned members of the public to be wary of politicians who capitalise on tragedies to incite them to cause chaos and destroy property, saying if found, they will face the law as individuals and not as a group of demonstrators.
