Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has challenged youths in the county not to be involved in immoral sexual behaviours like prostitution and instead get involved in agribusiness.

The governor noted that the rate of HIV/Aids infection in Kisii County has increased from six per cent to 8.5 per cent over the last two years.

Addressing the Kisii county youths on Wednesday at Kisii Cultural Hall during a youths forum, Ongwae challenged the young generation to get involved in agribusiness as one way of promoting themselves financially and to promote Kenya economically.

“I decided to put over 300 street lights in Kisii town to reduce prostitution because I heard that many underage girls do prostitution during night time in Kisii town streets. I have discovered that the rate of HIV infection is still increasing. I request all youths to do agriculture and small businesses,” said Ongwae.

He urged the youths to be tested for HIV as one way of knowing their status.

“I am sure 70 per cent of the youth do not know their HIV status. You all better know your status and abstain from premarital sex because the future is yours,” said Ongwae.
