The much anticipated Kisii county plan to construct a Sugar factory in South Mugirango is expected to face a major blow as a number of professionals from the area vowed to move to court to stop the project.
According to the professionals the project was planned without the concert of the community and there is need for the County Government to review their priorities before implementation.
Led by South Mugirango Professional Association Chairperson Ezra Otondi they said the area doesn't have enough sugarcane growers hence the factory won't be sustainable at all above all they fear it will become environment unfriendly as the investors will be forced to cut down a section of Nyangweta forest of which is the main water catchment forest in the area.
"We have decided to move to court by Tuesday to block the project as we were not consulted as professionals from the area to give our view on the impacts and importance of the project" said Otondi
They further accused the area Governor James Ongwae and area Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro of pushing for the project despite the fact that the majority of locals are not in for it.
"We suspect the two leaders Ongwae and Osoro have an hidden agenda from the way they are pushing for the project but we will block them in court" said Otondi
Their sentiments comes at a time the area Governor James Ongwae and the Mp Sylvanus Osoro have already appeared before the senate to get a green light despite mixed reactions towards the project.
