Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang`i has called to Education researchers to help come up with an effective design on the same.

Dr. Matiangi said the Open University of Kenya is part of strategic curricular reforms pioneered by the government that seek to up scaling access to tertiary education among Kenyans in rural areas who may otherwise never access university education.

"I throw this challenge to education researchers who should work with the Institute of Curriculum Development to develop a unified open learning curriculum that will enhance increased enrollment among youth to university education," he said.

He was speaking on Wednesday at Kabarak University where he opened a three day sixth annual international Research conference that brings together more than 200 academic scholars, scientific researchers and university lecturers from all over the world.

"Open learning programs supported by the digital and online platforms will afford local researchers a common cost effective forum where they can share and interrogate research concepts and ideas for innovation with a view of coming up with joint problem specific and solutions based ideas that can be funded by the state," Dr. Matiang'i said.
