An inter-agency operation carried out in Thika Town has revealed that only two liquor manufacturers have met standards set by law to operate as liquor manufacturer.
The only two given a clean bill of health to carry on with their business are Africa Spirits Ltd and Vinepack Limited.
According to the head of operation Samson Wamisa, the two have already met Kebs and public health standards, as well as paying KRA taxes for their usual operations.
The team comprises of NACADA officials, public health department, KEBS, KRA and other provincial administrators.
“It has come to our attention that some products in the market bear fake KRA stickers and others have passed their expiry dates by more than two years. This is risking the health of the consumers and that’s why we will wipe it out” said Wamisa.
He added: “We had an opportunity of visiting three manufacturing plants and after inspecting their production process, we gave the two (Vineyard and ASL) a clean bill of health.”
Wamisa concluded that the crackdown will not stop till all the illegal and counterfeit brews are destroyed.
He was speaking on Monday morning in Thika town in a press conference.
