Kiambu Governor William Kabogo is calling for free, fair and transparent nominations to avoid a repeat of what was witnessed in the just concluded exercise.
He slammed the recent nominations saying time has come for Kenyans to find a solution on hoiw to conduct "real party primaries that are transparent, free and fair".
Kabogo who is now running as an independent candidate after defecting from the ruling Jubilee believes that if the trend persists, in future, many aspirants will run as independents instead of seeking party tickets.
“I don’t think in future elections we will have many people joining parties because of what happened across the board, not only in Jubilee, but also in NASA and other parties. Nominations are like someone owns the party. Kila chama kina wenyewe,” said the county boss during an interview on KBC television on Wednesday evening.
He said only an independent process will ensure the nominations are credible.
"There is need to have an independent process that gives Kenyan parties a body like IEBC that will conduct nominations to ensure they are free and fair," he said.
This, stated the county boss, will ensure voters elect their preferred candidates.
He said Kenya's electorate is an informed lot that cannot be swayed into voting for euphoria or a party as has been the case before.
"People need to understand who it is that they are voting for as a person and what their agenda is," he concluded.
He dismissed his rivals as lacking an agenda noting that even after clinching the nomination certificates, they are yet to state what they will do for the people of Kiambu.
He appealed to Kiambu residents to give him another term to complete his transformation agenda.
