Speaking at the Wakulima market on Thursday when he led other hawkers in the allocation of new spaces, the hawkers’ association chairman Samuel Ole Nasieku said that only registered hawkers will benefit from the new stalls at the new market.

Nasieku said that his association will not allow unregistered hawkers, who he said are being brought in by some county officials to benefit from the new space.

“There are some people who we don’t know who are coming and lining up to be given space, but we want to state clearly that only registered hawkers will be given space,” said Nasieku.

“Those fake hawkers who are coming here must be warned because we know each other and we will flash them out,” he added.

Nasieku said that they will work with the county government to ensure that all the hawkers who were evicted from the CBD are given space.

“No hawker, who is rightfully registered, will miss space and we will push the county government until all of you are settled so that you can proceed on with your businesses,” he said.

The county government has confirmed to have already settled over 2000 hawkers at the new Wakulima market.
